Hello from the farm!
How good has this rain been?
It's the first time this year I've looked outside and thought, "gees, the lawn needs mowing." I love the John Deere Z-Trak. Mark loves that it has stubbie holders. Headphones on, it's oddly cathartic mowing. We have two JD mowers, but since getting the Z-Trak the other ride on has been quietly retired.
The timing of the rain was excellent, because we had a visit from Redlands School this week as part of their "paddock to plate" studies. Nothing like a few busloads of students arriving to make you suddenly see your farm the way other people see it. We were able to show them the difference between our paddocks and the neighbours', and what regenerative farming actually looks like in practice. Also how our hens deal with weeds, including the ever-ambitious serrated tussock. You can actually see the weed-free squares where the hens have been. It's quite amazing.
The paddocks look great. The farm looks refreshed. We'll enjoy it while we await that first frost.
